MOHEJI Shibuya Scramble Square store

Are you familiar with Shibuya Scramble Square? It’s the shopping center directly connected to Shibuya station. There is a duty free shop and various stores at this new, popular spot. The restaurant floor with a lot of popular stores is especially busy every day. Among the restaurants, there is always a long line at the well-known Monja-yaki restaurant MOHEJI. The main store is in Tsukishima, and it is directly operated by a fish wholesaler with a 150-year history in the Tsukiji and Toyosu fish markets.

Modern and fashionable vibes

Monja-yaki originated in the Tokyo downtown area. The batter is watery flour mixed with ingredients, spread thinly and cooked over a griddle, and eaten with a small spatula. Generally speaking, the many monja-yaki restaurants in Asakusa and Tsukishima have a traditional atmosphere. However, the appearance of this store is like a cafe lounge or a western-style restaurant. You would never guess it’s a monja-yaki place!

Menu

We were recommended the mentaiko and cheese topping monja. At this store, the server will make the monja for you at the table so even first-timers don’t have to worry about how to cook monja – you just have to enjoy the delicious finished product.

Fish is also recommended as a fish wholesaler runs this place. We ordered the seafood ajillo which was very fresh, tender and delicious.

Of course, they also have okonomiyaki which they will cook in the kitchen and bring to your table. We were told it takes 30 minutes to prepare this dish so it’s recommended that you order right away if you want to eat okonomiyaki.

English menu is available.
