Brief overview of Miyako Hotel Hakata
Miyako Hotel Hakata which opened in 2019 is only a 1-minute walk from Hakata station. There is an underground passage that connects the hotel to the station so you won’t get wet in rainy weather. The hotel looks like a resort hotel – you almost forget that the hotel is located conveniently in the middle of town.
Once you get to the street level from Hakata station the hotel appears right in front of you. There is greenery and waterfall in the upper floors. This waterfall flows from the rooftop heated pool area and there are special guest rooms where you can view the waterfall from the room.
You probably can’t experience this kind of open space at a business hotel.
Location?
A distinctive feature of this hotel is that it is conveniently located right near Hakata station. Hakata station is the terminal station on the Shinkansen from Tokyo, and Hakata station is only three train stops from Fukuoka airport so it is by far the most accessible station in Kyushu. You can visit the famous shrine Dazaifu Tenmangu or other sightseeing spots in Hakata and surrounding areas using this hotel as a base. There are various shopping spots and restaurants in the Hakata station area after sightseeing – so many choices.
Guest rooms
We reserved the Superior King room. We actually wanted to stay at “The Terrace” room where you can see the waterfall from the terrace, but because it was during the holidays, those rooms were fully booked.
The atmosphere of this room on the 12th floor was ordinary with no special view
Facilities
Shops & Restaurants
There are five western and Japanese-style restaurants as well as a convenience store, so we enjoyed the convenience during our stay. On the 1st floor, there is Starbucks and a famous Japanese confectionery store Kikutaro, and on the B1F floor there is a McDonald’s.
SPA LUCIDA
SPA LUCIDA is the outdoor heated pool and large communal bath on the top floor. You can go to the spa directly from your room in slippers and a robe by taking the exclusive elevator. Generally speaking, outdoor heated pools feel cold except in the summer, but the water temperature was warm and comfortable here even in early May.
We visited during the Golden Week holidays in May but it wasn’t crowded during the day. There is also a shallow pool for children. You can order from the restaurant on the same floor and dine by the pool side.
The large communal bath is also in the same area, so you can head to the bath area after swimming in the pool. There is a spin dryer in the dressing room which was very convenient for drying your swimming suit. The amenity in the dressing room was John Masters Organics products.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the same top floor as SPA LUCIDA. It is not a buffet – you have a choice of either a western or Japanese-style set menu. Children can have the same menu at half the adult price.
At the restaurant, you can sit down and eat in a leisurely way but on the day we went it was very crowded and we ended up waiting 30 minutes to be seated. We almost gave up and considered trying at a later time but we were told by the staff that it would get more crowded later. They don’t take reservations, specify a time frame, or notify you when your turn comes up – so you have no choice but to wait. They also told us no cancellations and refunds.
For guests booking a stay during busy season, get the plan without breakfast and go to Starbucks, McDonalds or other cafes nearby.
